About Balchik

Balchik is the area where Bulgaria’s fledgling golf region is being developed; it is a small, pleasant and histroric seaside town with 30 km of sandy beaches. The most prominent feature is a 250 metre plateau - a natural landscape that will offer some spectacular golfing scenery.

The town itself is small and picturesque and combines the romance and its steep cobbled streets with the beauty of the sea and the endless sandy beaches. It is situated amphitheatrically in a small bay on the Black Sea and attracts tourists with its historic natural sights. With the new golf courses and increases in direct flights the area is set to attract a steadily increasing number of tourists from Western Europe.

In the centre of Balchik lies the most diverse botanical garden in the Balkan area with over 3,000 rare and exotic plant species.

The climate in the Balchik area is mild through most of the year and cold during the winter months with some snow falls. All in all it’s an ideal golfing climate with average temperatures in the Spring of 14ºC, in the Summer of 24ºC and the in Autumn months of 20.5ºC.


Golf in the Balchik Area

There are three golf courses currently at various stages of development and planning. The courses are being designed by world class professional golfers – Ian Woosnam and Gary Player. The last of the golf courses is due to be completed January 2007.

When recently asked about one of the two courses Gary Player is designing he replied:

“I assure the investor here, that once the project is completed, I’ll tell the world what a fascinating and beautiful golf course there is in Bulgaria. I am looking forward to seeing a major European Championship coming here in two and a half to three years.”
